I’ve bought at least a couple of dozen HP printers in the course of the last twenty years, but I will never buy another.
The OfficeJet J4500 is a poorly-designed, awful Chinese piece of garbage. David Packard and Bill Hewlett must be rolling in their graves.
Guess what this is:

Answer: It was my only copy of an article I wrote for Learning Technologies being chewed up by the J4500′s scanner feed. And HP is being run by a printer guy?

It certainly feels like HP have abandoned their Mac using customers. I have a ScanJEt 4850 scanner that still doesn’t support for Snow Leopard (despite the promise of drivers by November) and a LaserJet 1022 printer that does have a Snow leopard driver but only prints every other page. Bloody useless.
Both will shortly be finding their way onto ebay, and like you I will never buy HP again.
Mind you, I wouldn’t blame the Chinese for producing this junk, after all they also manage to produce great quality products (like the entire Apple range). The most likely cause of the problem is cost cutting and ‘efficiencies’ demanded by their corporate paymasters at HP in the US.
