I have a quip with the statement that we must "re-conceive learning" - no we must reconceive work and how we design work environments to support work.

Hoffman (2004) points out that learning and performance are necessarily intertwined, and thus a well-designed work environment embraces supporting learning to achieve improved performance.

I recall a conversation with Joe Harless, who coined the term 'front-end analysis' and who believed strongly that training was something you did when you ruled out virtually all other possibilities. His Job Aid WorkShop emphasized that a great deal of "essential" knowledge could be stored outside the learner's head, reducing the time and effort required to produce worthwhile results.

Joe asked me if I could explain an EPSS in one sentence. I said, "It's a job aid with chips."
