That said, ROI on learning is difficult and for that matter, valuing any intangible is usually involves more than a taking a glug from the goodwill glass...
Here is an example that seeks to add to the mix. It looks at adding £ and $ to relationship intangibles (linking relationships and behaviour to the bottom line)

Your comments align with the one of the findings in the IBM/ASTD 'Value of Learning' research carried out by Brenda Sugrue, Tony O'Driscoll and Mary Kay Vona a couple of years ago (which I think was played down a bit). It was this, if senior managers think the Larning operation is providing value to the organisation, then it is doing so .... Some metrics might help, but many L&D people get themselves tied up in 'perfecting the irrelevant' - trying to measure things that have no direct correlation with increased corporate value, or whose correlation is unproven at best and often tenuous.
