This morning I joined an active audio discussion on informal learning with a bunch of people in California, Canada, Maine, Spain, and locations in between about topics like these…..
- informal learning is every day, not episodic
- some have perkshops, not workshops
- peer programming
- morning think meetings of the team, followed by pairing off
- XP as the model: XL?
- virtual mindmeld through shared screens
- conviviality at work
- Brittanica knowledge vs. Wikipedia knowledge
Our technology? Free Conference Call + Internet Relay Chat. Very reliable. This was Yi-Tan Conversation #99.

Informal learning as continuous forces me to think that the weekly staff meetings are as pointless as I always felt they were. With the informal nature of collaboration, a weekly staff meeting only serves to update the ones out of touch from the real goings on in the organization.
