“This week: Informal Learners Everywhere
Monday, August 21, 2006

Corporate universities, training programs, executive ed, knowledge management databases: it turns out that much of the stuff worth knowing people learn casually, from one another, not in structured programs or from structured content.

Longtime learning luminary Jay Cross has a book on informal learning on its way. With Jay’s help, let’s discuss:

  • How has informal learning started to show up on corporate radar? What provoked the shift?
  • What is the economic argument for informal learning? Is there an ROI for soft stuff like this?
  • What are the implications for our workplaces? Our educational system? Governments?

As always, an IRC Chat will be available during the call.

Please take a moment to read the Conference Call Protocol before joining us.

About the calls

Our goal is to have crisp, useful calls that occur frequently on a wide range of topics, from a variety of interesting perspectives. We want these audio nuggets to be available to you whenever you want them, wherever you are, so they will be downloadable from this site as MP3s you can play while commuting or treading your StairMaster.

In each call, we spend 20 to 30 minutes on a topic that matters to strategic planners, IT executives, investors and other professionals.
