Pull, Networking and Sucess since Benjamin Franklin, a new book by University of Colorado historian Pamela Walker Laird, says that who you know has always been important; we didn’t see what was going on because we weren’t looking for it.

Historical figures who rose to the top with a boost from mentors include Ben Franklin, J.P. Morgan, and Andrew Carnegie.
